About Tshwane City Improvement Districts
The concept of City Improvement District (CID) is based on stakeholders, such as owners of properties, residential and business tenants, in a demarcated area (usually a suburb) contributing a levy and joining forces with local authorities in enhancing security, cleaning, identifying bad buildings, illegal informal traders as well as total regeneration of the city. In Gauteng, City Improvement Districts are considered in terms of the Gauteng City Improvement District Act no. 12 of 1997, which was approved by the Gauteng Provincial Legislature on 9 December 1997.
Tshwane currently has four approved CIDs chaired by Piet du Toit.
