James Ngcobo directs The Hill at the State Theatre
• Saturday, 18 April 2009
The South African State Theatre, through its director development programme - 52 Seasons, will stage Zakes Mda’s The Hill in the Arena from Tuesday, 21 April until Sunday, 10 May 2009.
The Hill tells a story of two men sitting on top of a hill in Maseru, Lesotho waiting for their papers from the Native Recruitment Council which will allow them to come and work in South Africa.
While waiting, a lot happens as Mda takes us on a journey, which results in this production with a mental and spiritual hill. The diverse people who go past the hill daily represent souls which are on this search for something to happen in their lives.
The play is directed by actor-turned-director James Ngcobo and has a top flight cast of six, including Zenzo Ngqobe (Rhythm City), Kgomotso Ditshwene (Generations) and Bongani Madondo (Soul City).
